Roundup #019 - Heard, chef.

Roundup #019 - Heard, chef.

Oh hai there! It's been a busy one recently, in work and life and family and all that good stuff since getting back from my LA trip, so lemme try and round all that up into one chunky blogpost. First of all, we've been busy as a family with 'Strange Kids' - a side project turned family adventure with my kids designing toys and us bringing them to life thanks to our newly purchased 3D printer!

I'm going to do a separate blog post on this, documenting how it all came about, but of course I had to give it its own graphic identity, based on our greyhound Peggy!

Since getting it, the 3D printer's been pretty much on the go non-stop [Stop press! Dammit, literally just had my first error - I think me nozzle is all clogged up!] It's just so much fun designing stuff and bringing it to life immediately!

Sully designed his first toy, an axolotl, and we put them up for sale on our newly made online store! Some very kind folk ordered there own and we've had a little cottage industry printing, packing and posting them out!

Of course I wanted to join in the fun too, and made me own lil' dude in Blender and then printed out in parts: 'BroBot-5000'.

Using Spline 3D, I made PokΓ©mon-esque digital cards to go with each order! Sully came up with all the names and attacks and points for each one of them, which was super cute!

And, of course, I wanted to get in on that action myself and made one for BroBot-5000 too!

I've been loving using the 3D printer for making allsorts of other stuff, like discovering 'gridfinity' - an open source modular system for organisation, or printing out a stand for megadrive cartridges!!

There's been loads of other stuff happening too: we celebrated 10 years of marriage by all going away together - including the dog - and staying in a treehouse in Devon, which was absolutely lush...

Whilst we were in Devon we paid a visit to our favourite tiny toy store / toy museum, which is always a blast!

Oh! Big news, the most important news really... I got AKIRA and Arcane Season 1 on 4K UHD Blu-ray

I'm sure there's lots of other things that I'm forgetting but lets be real - the big headline here is that I've got AKIRA in another format. Everything else is irrelevant.

Until the next one, tatty byes!

- Gav.

WHAT AM I PLAYING?

Yeap yeap... stilllllll got Death Stranding 2 downloaded and ready to go, but I just haven't had time to sit down and start, as I know it deserves proper time and headspace. I also, foolishly, started Red Dead Redemption 2 again a few months back, so I have that to play through too! I am back on the TCG Pocket tip though, especially with the 2 new packs that have been releases, there's some lovely cards in there!

I also had a blast playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on a huge virtual screen thanks to Apple Vision Pro. Using the 'Portal' app on AVP, which is essentially Remote Play, I can pair the PS5 controller to the Vision Pro and then stream my gameplay into my virtual space!

WHAT AM I LISTENING TO?

I'm back on a BMTH trip at the minute, really into last years 'NeX GEn' as it's got the perfect mix of glitchy electronica and crunchy noisy guitars and screams.

  • Bring Me The Horizon – POST HUMAN: Nex GEn
  • Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory
  • Arcane – Season 2 Soundtrack
  • Linkin Park – Meteora
  • Bring Me The Horizon – Lo-files
  • Tyler, The Creator – DON'T TAP THE GLASS

We're still watching K-POP Demon Hunters here in our household, and those musical numbers just keep getting better and better.

Knocked Loose's set at Manchester's Outbreak festival looked / sounded awesome:

I've been a big fan of 'Jon Makes Beats' since his days as much overlooked rapper Jonwayne (his second album in particular is fantastic). Anyways, he's got a great youtube channel now where he makes beats on his steam. I love his energy and creativity, super inspiring.

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

We finally finished Season 4 of The Bear and bloody hell, what a ride! I absolutely loved the final two episodes, they were the epitome of 'show don't tell', because there wasn't any heavy exposition or rush to tie up all these ends... the episodes just showed us resolution, or gently hinted at. I thought it was a masterstroke in storytelling. Yes, chef.

With all the (brilliant) attention South Park is getting, it's worth rewatching '6 Days To Air' - all about how SP stays so relevant because it reacts to the worlds events and makes each episode within that same week. Insane.

WHAT'S CAUGHT MY EYE?

How my days... how did i not know Trombone Champ was out on the Switch.... with 4-player mode!? Jesus, that will be absolute carnage. Can't wait.

*Sidenote - Trombone Champ is currently about Β£4.50 on the UK Switch Store so I instantly went ahead and purchased it and we've all been cackling like absolute loons with 4-player family sessions, it's pure chaos!!

Thanks to Jaz for this link... I love everything about this home tour:
